Credit cards that offer cash back programs can help a consumer save a little money on purchases. Credit card companies use to offer cash back rewards with much higher percentages back than the typical 1% cash back that most credit card companies offer now. Some credit card issuers also offer larger percentages in cash back programs for specific purchases or if you spend large amounts of money using their cards. Here is a list of some of the better credit cards out there offering cash back reward programs.Chase Freedom Visa. This credit card offered by Chase has a 1% cash back program for all purchases made with the card. There is also the opportunity to earn 10% cash back on select purchases made online at the Chase shopping mall site. There is a $200 bonus cash back program if you spend at least $500 in the first three months of card ownership. You can earn 5% cash back on specific purchases in categories specified by Chase. To be able to qualify for any of the cash back programs your account must be in good standing. There is no annual fee for this card.
Citi Dividend World MasterCard. This Citi card has a similar program to the Chase Freedom card in that they offer a $100 cash back bonus after you spend $500 in purchases with the card in the first three months. There is also 1% cash back on most purchases with 5% cash back on purchases made in selected categories. With this card there is no minimum spending amount to qualify for the cash back percentages. If you want to transfer your credit card balance from another card you can do that with 0% APR for the first fifteen months. This introductory 0% interest rate is also in place for all purchases made during the first fifteen months. There is no annual fee for this card.
Blue Cash Everyday from American Express. The Blue Cash Everyday card from American Express offers 3% cash back on everyday kinds of purchases like grocery store purchases, gas and department store purchases. Everything else you purchase qualifies for a 1% cash back reward. There is also an introductory 0% interest rate for all purchases made with this card in the first year. There is no annual fee for this card. If you make a referral to this card to a qualified individual you can earn a $25.00 referral bonus.
Discover More Card. This card offers a fairly difficult to follow cash back rewards program. Like most other cash back credit cards you get 1% back on most purchases but only after you spend $3,000 on purchases made with the card. In the pre $3,000 purchase time you get .025% in cash back rewards. You can also earn 5% cash back on any purchases made in Discover determined categories. There is a cap on the amount you can earn with this cash back program. If your payments are delinquent then all cash back rewards are lost. There is no annual fee with this card. The card offer comes with a 0% introductory offer for balance transfers and purchases for fifteen months.
History of the Cash Back Credit Card
It is widely believed that Discover card championed the cash back credit card. In 1988, Sears, Roebuck and Co filed a trademark registration application for the term “cashback bonus”. At that time, Dean Witter Financial Services Group, Inc was a subsidiary of Sears, Roebuck and Co. IN 1986, Dean Witter Financial Services Group, Inc., launched the Discover Card nationally in the U.S. Dean Witter Financial and Discover were later spun off into a publically traded subsidiary of Sears and Roebuck and Co. Thus the cash back credit card was born.
